For a common man nothing is important or necessary. But if a human wishes to rise high in life, if he wants to stop leading an animal existence and become really human then he needs a powerful medium to guide him. He needs a guide who could tell him which Sadhana is good for him, which Mantra best suits him, how he should chant the Mantra and how he can get rid of the obstacles that might arise in life.

Only a Guru can explain all this correctly. Every person has two paths to follow in life. A Guru is like a milestone who guides the Sadhak onto the right path and tells him that this is the path for you. Just as a married life is important in this world, similarly to progress in spiritual life one needs the guidance of a Guru.

The relationship between a Guru and a disciple begins on the material plane but it culminates in the spiritual world, in the world of Sadhanas, on the plane of totality. Guru is the formless divine element. And a disciple wishes to devote himself fully in the feet of the divine. Lest he loses his way in this world he needs a Guru’s guidance constantly.

Kabir has said that Guru is one’s master and being a disciple means devoting oneself fully in the feet of the Guru.

The disciple has just one duty towards the Guru and the Guru too has just one duty towards the disciple. Disciple means one who is disciplined and totally devoted towards the Guru. Guru’s duty is to fuse the disciple into his own form and make him divine like himself.

Deity means some force or energy in one’s life that is Supreme. One wishes to become one with the deity. If the disciple is so devoted then he can consider the Guru to be his deity. In fact such a feeling makes one a really good disciple. If such is one’s feeling then one can progress very fast towards one’s goal.

No! The relation of brother-sister and husband-wife are emotional. The relations differ because of differences in one’s feelings. With one a person has physical relation and with the other one is attached as a kin. A wife and a sister both are women. The difference is of feelings. In Muslims one is even allowed to marry one’ s cousin while in the Hindus this is prohibited. It is the feelings which matter more. In the world of Sadhanas when a person gets Diksha it is not a social relation that is formed. It is a relation on the spiritual plane.

On the spiritual plane the worldly relations like that of brother, sister, wife, husband do not exist because all are just souls on that level. Hence after Diksha no difference comes in the material relations although on the spiritual plane all are equal and no relations exist.

One who is a Guru today must have been a disciple earlier and he too must have undergone severe tests. This is why when a Guru is testing a disciple then the Guru’s worth and his level is also tested. A disciple who fears such test cannot progress. Such an individual is only fit to lead an animal existence of passion and pleasures. Only those who have the guts to face all tests, who have a determination in their eyes are eligible to walk on the great path of spirituality, Only those who can walk miles without complaining can reach the highest pinnacle of success in life.

If you realise it then you will know that becoming ‘a disciple means trying to, attain to totality in life. Till the disciple has attained to totality in life neither his efforts nor the Guru’s work shall be appreciated.

Hence the disciple should never nurture evil thoughts for the Guru and he should get Diksha from the master with a pure heart. He should get Dikshas from a great soul to make his life materially successful and for attaining spiritual success. One should try and attain to totality in this very life. Lord Shree Ram was the disciple of Vashishtth and yet he also went on to become the disciple of Vishwamitra. Even Lord .Krishna who was the disciple of Sandeepan went on to get Diksha from Yogiraj Gunnaateetaanand and reached Siddhashram.
