A

Aagya ChakraThe sixth celestial Chakra which is situated on the forehead between the eyebrows, on whose awakening a person is transformed into a divine being.
Aarti A short prayer or eulogy sung in the reverence of a diety or a Guru. A kind of short religious ceremony in which a prayer is sung and lighted lamps are used to worship a God or a saint.
Abhishek Lit: Coronation. It denotes a religious ceremony in which the outer body is consecrated by sprinkling energised water on it.
Acharya A Hindu teacher, scholar.
Adhar Base, foundation.
Adi Shankaracharya Till date he is considered as the greatest spiritual saint, India has ever produced. Born in 788 A.D> in a Malyalam family, the child Shankaracharya was inclined towards spiritualism from his early childhood. He wrote scores of books namely Shankar Bhashya, Shatshloki, Vivek Choodamanni etc. He curtailed the spread of Buddhism and established the supremacy of Vedas by emerging victorious in all the debates, throughout India. Even today he is worshipped as an epithet of Shiva.
Adrishya Drishya Gutika A miraculous pill made of Samskarised mercury.
Adrishya Siddhi Accomplishment achieved through Sadhana by which one can become invisible.
Advait The theory of Monoism. The exponents of this theory believe that God is present in each person.
Aghori A follower of the Aughadd sect. One who has liberated himself from the eight vices, viz. expectation, fear, greed, aversion, bodily pleasures, sham, abhorrence and prestige, which are considered as the major obstacles in the path of spiritual enlightenment.
Agni Beej A single lettered Mantra pronounced as (Yum).
Agni Sthayi A state of pure mercury, when it does not evaporate even on keeping on fire.
Agni Vedhi Samskar A special Samskar for the formation of gold from mercury.
Ahavaan Siddhi A Siddhi through which one can call out great souls to appear before oneself.
Ahuti Oblations of clarified butter, incense and other material, made in the holy fire.
Akaash Gaman A Siddhi through which one becomes capable of flying in the skies.
Amrit Elixir, ambrosia.
Anahat Chakra The fourth of the divine centers present in the body, on the route of the kundalini, on whose awakening a person can venture into time periods ranging thousands of years in the past as well as the future, and can also go into a state of deep meditation. Anahat Chakra is situated near the heart.
Anand The state of true joy or divine bliss.
Ang Nyas A special step by step procedure of purifying and energising the parts of one's body through Mantras, before the commencement of Sadhana.
Anima An accomplishment through which a person can acquire a miniature size even smaller than a mosquito.
Annapoorna The Goddess of food and nourishment.
Apsara A heavenly nymph.
Ashta Dal An eight petalled lotus. A geometric figure with a circle surrounded by eight petals.
Ashta Gandh A divine perfume made of eight natural articles viz. Aloe wood, Tabernaemontana Coronaria, Camphor, Curcuma Reclinata, Botanrus, India Spikenard, Sandalwood and Saffron.
Ashta Siddhi The eight renowned accomplishments of ancient India through which one can gain miraculous powers. Today, only a few Yogis possess these Siddhis which are: a. Anima b. Mahima c. Laghima d. Garima e. Prapti f. Prakamya g. Vashitva h. Ishitva
Ashwini Kumar The twin Gods of medicinal sciences.
Atharved The last of the four Vedas which contains the theories, doctrines and philosophies of various sages and Yogis, the other three being Rigved, Yajurved and Samved.
Aughadd Sadhana The special Sadhana practices, practiced by an Aghori.
Ayurved The ancient Indian science of medicine based on herbs, metals and minerals.

Baba Vishwanath Another name of Lord Shiva, denoting the Lord of the world.
Baddh Ras Mercury solidified by Samskars.
Bagla (mukhi) One of the ten Mahavidyas in the field of Tantra. This particular Goddess bestows the Sadhak with complete victory over the enemies.
Beej Lit:Seed. Here it denotes single lettered Mantras.
Bhagwan God
Bhagwati Jagdamba A Goddess who in the form of divine energy - Shakti, was created by the confluence of the powers of all other Gods and Goddesses. An epithet of Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva.
Bhairavi A Goddess. Also a woman worshipper of Lord Bhairav (a manifestation of Lord Shiva).
Bhairavi Chakra Cult A cult of ascetics worshipping Lord Bhairav.
Bhastrika Quick and fast breathing which helps in activation of the Muladhar Chakra. It is basically a Yogic practice.
Bhawani Another name of Bhagwati Jagdamba.
Bhog Worldly pleasures.
Bhog Bhairavi practice A Tantra practice in which a beautiful woman is made the medium to accomplish Sadhanas.
Bhrangi A follower and attendant of Lord Shiva.
Booti Herb, medicinal plant.
Brahma The Ultimate Power. The absolute Supreme Being. One of the Trinity of Gods in hindu religion. Brahma is the creator of the world, the other two being Shiva, the destroyer and Vishnu, the preserver.
Brahma Deh One of the seven subtle bodies present in everyone is called Brahma Deh, or cosmic body. On realisation of this body a Sadhak becomes Brahma himself.
Brahma Naad The resonating sound of Mantra - chanting produced through the 84 lac pores of the body simultaneously, after the body gets activated and divine.
Brahmanand The divine joy obtained on the realisation of the supreme truth, the 'Brahma'.
Brahmand Diksha A special Diksha granted by a Guru through which a person is able to acquire the knowledge of his previous and future births, thus making his life more successful and meaningful. The Sadhna related to it is Brahmand Sadhna.
Brahma Rishi An ascetic of the highest caliber who has attained the realisation of Brahma and has immersed himself in divine bliss.
Brahma Swaroop The form of Brahma
Brahmatva Divinity pertaining to Brahma. The state of being Brahma.
Brahma Vidya The complete knowledge through which anything can be created.
Brahmin A Hindu priest. The highest class in the Hindu caste system.

Chaturdal A geometrical figure. A lotus with four petals.
Chintan Contemplation, philosophy.
Chhinmasta One of the ten Mahavidyas, Mother Chhinmasta is considered very significant in the field of Tantra. Her Sadhna bestows upon the Sadhak divine accomplishments like Vaksiddhi (through which a person can give a curse or a boon), Stambhan (restrainment of every living and non living thing).
Crore Indian Unit of measure. One Crore is equal to Ten Million.

Dakshina Offerings in form of a gift made at the time of obtaining knowledge which are usually presented in the feet of a Guru especially by a disciple.
Darshan To have a glimpse of something divine and sacred, e.g. Gods, Guru. To see, to have the manifestation of God.
Daula Yantra Yantra in hindi means an equipment. Daula Yantra consists of an earthen pot with a stick fixed across its mouth. The mercury is tied in a cloth and hung on this stick in the pot. Then the pot is heated to carry out a Samskar.
Deepak An earthen lamp with a cotton wick and filled with clarified butter or mustard oil.
Deh Body.
Deh Lupt Kriya/Siddhi A practice through which one can become invisible.
Deh Siddhi The process of making the body get rid of all ailments and old age.
Dharma One of the four essentials of a man's life. It basically means duty and righteousness. Also means religion in common usage.
Dharna Shakti The ability to retain the powers acquired through Dhyan and Sadhnas.
Dhoti Kurta Attire worn by men in India. Dhoti is a fine cloth tied around the waist whereas, Kurta is a sort of loose shirt.
Dhumavati One of the ten Mahavidyas, she is said to bestow the Sadhak with a worthy son, protection from calamities and victory over the enemies.
Dhyan Meditation. To enter into the deep realms of one's body is known as Dhyan. It is the first stage of Kriya-Yog. Also known as Dhyan-Yog or meditation.
Diksha A unique process and a ceremony of initiation into Sadhnas, which a Guru performs on his disciple. It is in fact a procedure of bestowing the divine powers of a Guru to the disciple, through which he progresses continuously on the path of divinity. There are a number of Dikshas mentioned in the scriptures for achieving various goals e.g. Kundalini Jagran Diksha (for the awakening of the Kundalini), Baglamukhi Diksha (for the annihilation of the enemies), Panchanguli Diksha (for knowing the past and future of a person) etc.
Divyastras The divine weapons of the Gods.
Durga Another name of Jagdamba.
Dvait The theory of dualism according to which God and soul are different i.e. matter and divinity are two independent identities.

Gajput Process of calcination. Reducing of metals into ash, in a hole in the earth.
Gandharva A class of Demi-Gods skilled in celestial music.
Ganga A sacred river of the hindus which originates from the glacier Gangotri at a point called Gomukh in the Himalayas. One is said to be absolved of all sins by bathing in its holy waters.
Geeta Also called Shreemad Bhagwat Geeta, this is one of the holy texts of the hindus which contains the divine discourse given, to Arjun, by Lord Krishna in the battle of Mahabharat.
Gorakhnath A great religious, spiritual seer of the Nath cult of ascetics who propagated the Sabar Mantras, which are believed to be immediately effective.
Guru A religious, spiritual teacher or mentor. According to ancient Indian Philosophy, one cannot attain success in the spiritual field without the help of a real Guru or Sadguru.
Gurudev A reverential form of the word Guru. It is used for Dr. Narayan Dutt Shrimali.
Gutika A pill or ball.
Gyan Chakra Same as Aagya Chakra.
