Raksha Beej Single letter Mantra (Tum, the pronunciation is the same as in the word sum), used to provide protection in life from extraneous and evil forces.
Ram An incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
Ramayan The epic containing the life story of Lord Ram. In fact there are two such epics. One was written by sage Valmiki who lived in the time of Lord Ram and the other was written by saint Tulsi Das in the sixteenth century A.D.
Ras Another name for mercury.
Rasacharya A scholar of Paarad Vigyan.
Rasayan Lit: Chemical. Rasayan Vigyan means the science of Chemistry. It also denotes the science for preparation of gold.
Rasayannigya A person practicing the Rasayan Vidya, Alchemist.
Rasayan Vidya The science of Rasayan.
Ras Beej Single lettered Mantra.
Raseshwari Another name for Paarad Lakshmi.
Ras Siddh Yogi An ascetic accomplished in the Samskars and uses of mercury.
Rechak The third step of Pranayam in which the stale air is exhaled slowly and completely from the lungs.
Rechan Consecration of the inner body.
Rigved The oldest of the four Vedas, Rigved is a unique treatise containing hundreds of Mantras.
Rishi A sage, hermit, learned ascetic.
Rudra Another name of Lord Shiva.
Rudraksh Ultrasum Bead. It is the fruit of this tree and is considered sacred by the hindus. It is woven into a rosary and worn around the neck.

Sadguru A true and real Guru.
Sadhak A worshipper, one who performs Sadhana.
Sadhika A woman who practices Sadhana.
Sadhana A worship, deep penance done to achieve a particular accomplishment. A practice of meditation and worship in which the Mantras are chanted. There are thousands of Sadhanas through which one can accomplish even impossible feats. Sadhana literally means to control. Hence, it is actually a process to control and harmonise the nature and the supernatural powers according to one's need with the help of Mantra, Tantra and Yantra.
Sadhu Literally: An affable person. One who has perfect control over one's body. An ascetic.
Sahastrar The point at the apex of the head where the Kundalini Power finally reaches and rests. This Chakra or centre is said to be a store of divine elixir which if activated, can raise the body to high spiritual levels, bestowing one with miraculous powers.
Samadhi The state of deep trance which is the final stage of the state of Dhyan or meditation. Accomplished sages and Yogis can go into Samadhi for days, months and even hundreds of years.
Samputan A religious ceremony.
Samskar A process of purifying and consecrating mercury to make it fit enough to be used as a medicine and for the preparation of gold. There are total 108 Samskars of mercury.
Samved One of the four Vedas.
Sanjivani Vidya The knowledge of instilling life into a dead body. A herb by the name of Sanjivani is said to have such powers.
Sanskrit The ancient Indian language in which most of the ancient Indian scriptures have been written. Most Indian languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu are believed to have originated from Sanskrit.
Sanyasi A hermit. Ascetic
Saraswati The consort of Lord Brahma (the creator of the universe) she is the Goddess of knowledge, speech and learning.
Sarva Bakshi Capable of consuming everything.
Shakti Lit: Power. Goddess Parvati is worshipped in the form of Shakti i.e. Divine Power. There are said to be ten Maha Shaktis or Maha Vidyas i.e. forms of Goddess Parvati.
Shaktipaat The transfer of divine powers by a Guru into the body of the disciple, in order to raise him to higher spiritual levels.
Shankaracharya A great religious saint who reinstated the Vedic knowledge to its pristine glory.
Shastra A class of ancient Indian scriptures.
Shiva Lord Shiva, the destroyer, is one of the trinity of the Gods namely Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
Shivaling An epithet of Lord Shiva.
Shiv Ratri A special occasion on which Lord Shiva is worshipped. On this day Lord Shiva is believed to have married Parvati.
Shlok Poetic verses in Sanskrit.
Shree Lit: a title of respect, wealth. Shree is also a name for Goddess Lakshmi.
Shree Sukta Sanskrit verses in praise of Goddess Lakshmi containing processes of preparation of gold.
Shudra Lowest caste in the Hindu caste system.
Siddh noun, an accomplished Yogi, ascetic or person. verb, to accomplish. When a Sadhak achieves success in Sadhana or in some practice, he is said to have become a Siddh eg. Ras Siddh Yogi- An ascetic accomplished in Samskars and use of mercury.
Siddhashram A secret divine place in the Himalayas which is the abode of great Yogis and sages, who are thousands of years old. It is the centre of all spiritualism on this earth. This place is surrounded by an invisible protective shield due to which an ordinary person cannot see it or reach it.
Siddhasram Sadhana A Sadhana accomplished to reach Siddhashram.
Siddhi Spiritual or transcendental accomplishment achieved in Sadhanas.
Siddh Ras A form of Samskarised mercury by eating which one gets rid of all diseases and ailments.
Siddh Sut A powder made of Samskarised mercury, which if rubbed onto other metals turns them into gold.
Siddh Yogi An ascetic who possesses divine powers by virtue of having accomplished Sadhanas.
Sona Baba Lit: Golden ascetic. The name of an ascetic accomplished in the preparation of gold.
Stavan An eulogy pertaining to a God or a Guru.
Sukshma Deh One of the seven subtle bodies present in everyone. On realisation of the Sukshma Deh or the Astral body, a person can witness any event in the universe through divine vision.
Surya Siddhant Prakriya The science of preparation of articles and transforming one element into another using solar rays.
Sutras Lit: Verses.
Swadhishthan Chakra The second Chakra situated in between the Muladhar and Manipur Chakra. On its activation the state of celibacy is required and the countenance of the Sadhak glows with a unique radiance.
Swarn Lit: Gold.
Swarn Kalpa Kalp means a process. Hence Swarn Kalp means a process of preparing gold.
Swarnavati A form of Goddess Lakshmi.
Swarn Vigyan The science of preparation of gold.
Swarn Yakshini Sadhana The Sadhana of the Yakshini, named Swarn Yakshini, for obtaining immense wealth and gold.
Swami One who has completely controlled and subjugated his desires and senses. A title used for accomplished ascetics eg. Swami Divyanand, Swami Shivanand.

Tantra To carry out work in a well organised manner. Hence Tantra in Sadhana means the confluence of Mantra and Yantra through which one can accomplish a Sadhana in a systemised way.
Tantrik A person who practices Tantra.
Tapasya Performing deep penance.
Tibet The country of 'Yaks'. It is another spiritual country, North East of India which has achieved great feats in the field of tantra. The Tantriks there, known as Lamas, follow the Buddhist cult and are divided into different groups like the Himayana, Mahayana, Vajrayana etc.
Tola An Indian unit of weight- one eightieth of a seer.

Upnishad The abridged form of the Vedas are known as Upnishads. There are 108 Upnishads.

Vaishya One of the four major classes of people of the Indian society. Basically it is a class representing the businessmen.
Vamachaar The ethos of Vam Marg, one of the two major paths of Tantra. The other being Dakshin Marg, which requires complete sanctity and purity of the mind, body and actions. Vaam Marg, on the other hand, does not stick to such restrictions. It is also known as the leftist wing of Sadhana.

Varga Lit: Group.
Vashikaran Gutika A miraculous pill made of Samskarised mercury helpful in enchanting the people.
Vashisht One of the famous seven sages (Sapta Rishis) who were considered in their powers to be equal to Gods. Vashisht was the son of Lord Brahma.
Vedas The four principal texts of ancient India. Rigved, Atharved, Yajurved and Saamved. They contain deep knowledge of Sadhanas, medicines and Indian philosophy.
Vedic Pertaining to the Vedas.
Veg A kind of metal, used in the formation of gold. Tin.
Vidya Knowledge, lore, erudition.
Viniyog A vow taken by the Sadhak, before the commencement of a Sadhana, to accomplish the Sadhana according to the rules and regulations.
Vish One of the various impurities found in mercury.
Vishnu One of the trinity of Gods who is worshipped by the hindus as the preserver of the universe.
Vishuddh Chakra The fifth divine Chakra which is situated in the throat region. On its activation a person attains the power to give a curse or a boon.
Vishwamitra An ancient sage who was famous for his determination, firmness and resolution.

Y

Yagna A special procedure of worship in which various materials are offered as oblations, in the holy pyre, to obtain the desired results. There are a number of yagnas, mentioned in the scriptures, for acquiring various blisses viz. Putreshthi Yagna (for obtaining an obedient and worthy son), Ashwamegh Yagna (for achieving total victory), Mahalakshmi Yagna (for obtaining wealth and prosperity) etc.
Yajurved The second of the Vedas. It is a compilation and collection of various Mantras which were created by different sages. It has two parts- Shukla Yajurved and Krishna Yajurved.
Yaksha A class of Demi-Gods, bestower of riches and wealth. Feminine: Yakshini
Yama The Lord of death.
Yantra Lit: A machine, equipment, device. In Sadhana, Yantra is a geometric figure inscribed on a metallic plate or a paper, which consists of mystic numbers, Mantras and figures. The Yantra is in fact the confluence of the powers of the concerned God. When a Mantra is chanted the sound vibrations gather force from the Yantra and after reflecting from its surface spread out into the universe and reach the concerned God. These vibrations come into contact with the form of the God, gather divine powers and blessings from Him and return to the Sadhak, thus instilling divinity into him.
Yog One of the six schools of Indian philosophy, it refers to the system of concentration and meditation through the practice of special postures.
Yogi A hindu mendicant, an ascetic. One who performs the practice of Yog.
Yogini A woman who practices Sadhanas.
Yogiraj The most distinguished one, among all the Yogis.
Yoni Lit: Female genitals. Here it depicts the cavity on top of the base of a Shivaling in which the Ling is placed.
Youvan Kartari Ras Siddh Paarad Miraculous Samskarised Paarad, which is able to bestow virility in a sexually incompetent person.
Youvan Kartari Samskars The special steps of Samskars performed on mercury in order to transform it into Youvan Kartari Ras Siddh Paarad.
Yogiraj The most eminent one among all Yogis.
